Merv Coleman grew up on a farm in Nebraska. Here on the rolling hills of the great plains is where his appreciation for nature began. His love for nature was further enhanced by family vacations to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Later he attended Colorado State University and spent more time exploring the Rocky Mountains. Upon graduating from CSU with a degree in Range Biology, he served four years in the United States Marine Corps as a reconnaissance systems officer in an F-4 Phantom jet. After the Marines he started a career as a range conservationist with the Bureau of Land Management, where he was asked to use his photographic talents to photograph wild horses on the high cold desert lands of northern California and Nevada. These experiences greatly influenced his decision to become a full-time photographer. In 1980 he and his family moved to Red Lodge and started operating a photography studio and gallery with the Rockies and Yellowstone National Park as a backdrop.

Merv is an award-winning photographer of both nature and portrait photography. He was honored as Photographer of the Year in 1996 and 1998 by the Montana Professional Photographers Association. He has been published in Better Homes and Gardens, Western Horseman, Geo, Spur, Montana Magazine, Snow Country, Powder, Big Sky Journal, and many Yellowstone Country and Montana travel publications. His photographs are proudly displayed in businesses and homes throughout the country.
